The adoption of Office is thus facilitated

After companies in may, it is now the turn of the general public to discover the new version of the famous suite of Microsoft Office 2010. The official launch is expected tomorrow. And the computer giant obviously expects a good home. Evidenced by the 7 million downloads of the beta version of the software, free test since November 2009. In France, they would total $ 570,000. "The France is the second country in the number of downloads, behind the United States", welcomes Jean-Christophe pity, Director of the division Office in Microsoft France. No sales goal is disclosed, but the Group well continue the growth registered with the public for three years, with the previous version of Office 2007. "It had succeeded in increasing sales by three in the large distribution from the 2003 version", said Jean-Christophe pity.

The master word to get there is simplification. From a technical, first point of view. Ergonomics is the same as that of Office 2007, which, although disconcerting at first, was finally a relative ease of use. The software should also integrate with Windows Live and Microsoft's Internet mail service. From a point of view of the distribution, then. Two main offerings are proposed: one for the family and students, and the other for small businesses. In addition to the classic sale in CD format, Microsoft will offer for the first time a mode of purchase by download.

Another innovation, the use of a lighter version of the software suite Internet, Office Web Apps, free car funded by advertising. The it group hopes to address the threat that may represent competition from free software such as Open Office and Google Docs (see below). But Jean-Christophe pity estimated that more than a stand-alone product it is rather "a true complement to the official version of Office", which should encourage the user to adopt the paid software.

Inflate the results

If the release of Office 2010 is a trade event important to Microsoft and the industry in General, the success of the Office suite will be mainly to PC manufacturers. The firm of Redmond is ubiquitous on computers with its Windows operating system, and about 90 of market share. The adoption of Office is thus facilitated. "By the end of 80-90 of PCs sold by the major manufacturers (HP, Acer, Dell, etc.) will have a preinstalled Office 2010 version", predicted Jean-Christophe pity. The boom in sales of computers since the beginning of the year is therefore good news for the computer giant. In France, they were bounced from 31 in the first quarter, by volume. And projections for the rest of the year remain very satisfactory. According to the Gartner research firm, sales growth is expected to rise to 22 in the world.

The optimism of Microsoft can also be read in the welcome reserved by the companies in the professional version, marketed since May 12, and insists on the collaborative aspects with the integration of Sharepoint (Enterprise social network) software. No figure is still communicated. But, in France, large companies such as Alstom, and Sanofi-Aventis currently deploy the suite on their computer network.

In any case, the success of Office 2010 could inflate the results of the US group, in the next fiscal year 2010-2011 (closed June 30). The software suite sales accounted for approximately 30 of the turnover and almost half of the profits of the group in the first nine months of the year 2009-2010.
