But the Cardinals defense stood tall and stopped Detroit on what I think was another ill-advised call by their rookie head coach Jim Schwartz (who I thought several times was going to have ananeurysm). With just under 10 minutes to go, and down by a touchdown, he chose to go for it on 4th-and-1 in the shadow of the goalpost. But their defense didn’t get word, and they once again three-and-outted Arizona’s offense, helped by an intentional grounding penalty on Kurt. Pro Bowl punter Ben Graham (Yay!) was able to kick from under the goalpost to midfield. A few plays later, aided by a 24-yard pass to afore-unmentioned WR Calvin Johnson, scored on a QB Drew Stanton one-yard plunge away from the now pissed Dockett. 
The game was tied again with just under four minutes to play. Highlighted by a 33-yard Beanie Wells run to the Detroit 11 that put him over the century mark for the first time in his career, the Big Red was finally able to put the suddenly big cats to rest. With just under two minutes to play, Warner hit Boldin on that screen coming out of motion, and Q did the rest. He twisted, cut, zigged, zagged, sliced, diced, and demolished the upset dreams of the Lions faithful in attendance Both of them This shouldn’t have been so hard I mean, a win is a win and all that. But teams that want to be considered "elite" have to play like it for four quarters. This is the third or fourth game I can think of where their heads were just somewhere else for a quarter, and allowing the otherwise over-matched opposition to be in games late that they have no business being in.

The 49ers/Eagles game isn’t over yet, and too close to say with certainty that the Cardinals have won their second consecutive NFC West Championship at this point But this is a hell of a way to do it. After raising doubt last week in a huge game that mattered against a division foe, with the crown as their reward for victory, they laid an egg (and seven fumbles). Now they go into Detroit, against a team that had all of two wins over the past two seasons, and barely escaped with a win. Its a whole hell of a lot easier being a Cardinals fan these days than at any time I’ve known as a fan But they’re the Cardinals.
